New Year, New shows

Big Brother may be finished for good, but we still have a couple of decent shows to enjoy at the moment! The beginning of the year saw Dancing on ice start up for another season, and this year, there are a few decent celebs to laugh at/envy/whatever. Heather Mills is surprising me with her ‘can do’ attitude, and also Mikey Grahame who’s looking like a bit of a natural! You can watch Dancing on ice on ITV1 Sunday evenings, with extra celeb gossip on Friday nights with the new show that’s started this year; ‘Dancing on ice Friday.’

If you’re looking for something a little more serious, this week saw the start of a new 4 part channel 4 documentary, ‘Tower block of commons.’ In this show, a handful of MP’s move onto a council estate to find out what life in such places is really like. Will they take what they learn and run? Or will they finally see what the average person has to endure on a day to day basis when it comes to issues such as crime and the rising costs of living? Catch up with yesterday’s episode on 4od, and find the other programmes on Monday nights, channel 4.

Katie and Peter

I hope you’re enjoying the final Katie and Peter Stateside shows because other than tonight’s episode (Which I will be watching in an hour on ITV2!), and the final in the series showing next week, there are no more shows featuring Katie and Peter as a couple and nor are there ever likely to be now they’re no longer together :(

The good news is that the couple were signed up to film until 2010 so I’m told for the next series there will be two separate reality shows made, one each for Katie and Peter.

I’d hate to think so…

Call me sad if you will, but; a) I love celebrity couples, b) I love Katie and Peter, and c) I love their reality show which is shown on ITV2 at 9pm on Thursdays.

As a ‘Stateside’ viewer and regular reader of all things trashy, I believe they really do love each other and look to be a very close family, and I don’t for one minute believe any of this break up is a publicity stunt. Katie might be fame hungry but Pete doesn’t come across as somebody who’d willingly break up his family under the watchfull eyes of the media for a bit of extra attention, even if I am told his much loved new album will be available within the next couple of months.

If they do split for good however, The Katie and Peter show will obviously be no more so it’s time to enjoy the programme whilst we can! I had at this point planned a quick you tube video but it seems their managment company has been pulling the ITV2 show off the site quicker than I can search for it!

British Best Friend

British Best Friend is the new reality show by Paris Hilton, in which a dozen contestants compete to become Paris’s new British best friend. Every week the contestants are asked to perform tasks to show their personalities which in turn allow Paris to learn who she might be compatable with. I watched the first episode last week because hubby was away and I could find nothing else, but whilst it was watchable if you love reality shows like I do, there wasn’t a lot to it that I could comment on. I did however love having a look inside her MASSIVE wardrobe!!

What fascinated me most about the show was the reasoning behind why people applied for the show in the first place. I’m sure Paris is a lovely lady, but how on earth do you know you’d like to be a best friend to somebody if you’ve never met them before? Why put yourself through the humiliation of being passed over on TV when the end result might be a less than rewarding friendship?!

Since I’ve sort of adopted Todd Carty from Sunday’s Dancing on ice competition I figured I’d post the video of his latest efforts! Apart from the daft ‘swimming on the ice’ move I’m pretty impressed! He’s trying so hard to stand upright and improve that I can’t help but support him! Todd to win!!

If I were a celebrity I’d have to think long and hard about going on reality shows such as Dancing on ice. There have been too many contest shows for us not to know that all the reality programmes celebs take part in are actually televised popularity competitions. In the case of Dancing on ice, it doesn’t matter at all whether contestants can skate – the public want to encourage their favourite stars and humiliate those they don’t like. Todd Carty can’t skate for toffee, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon! Maybe it doesn’t matter to some that he can barely stand on the ice. After all, he’s entertaining and taking the lessons in a good nature!

If I were a celebrity and really wanted a challenge, I’d book a course of skating or dance lessons on the quiet and fullfill my own personal challenge without the public sitting at home, watching me fail as I learn. With that in mind I really do wonder why so many are still desperate to sign up for these shows, especially when they know there’s a good chance they’ll be judged on their personality rather than their ability on the stage.

I’m a Celeb is back!!

Sunday, 9pm on ITV1 see’s the new series of ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!’ starting up! In case you aren’t familiar with the show, a whole host of (usually c class I admit!) celebrities are dumped in the Australian Jungle where they’re expected to camp out for 2 or 3 weeks. They are given very very basic rations and have to take part in what’s known as ‘Bush Tucker Trials’ to earn themselves and their campmates a decent meal. These tasks range from swimming with the crocodiles to eating Kangaroo eyes but they have to be done because surviving in the jungle on a few beans is near impossible!

I’ve had a look around the net and I haven’t seen any names of definite contenders this year so I’m very much looking forward to Sunday’s show when I can see which mugs have put themselves forward. Not for a million £’s would you get me taking part in something like this – I’d even be terrified of sleeping too near the poisonous spiders and snakes!!

S Club are back together!

According to newspaper reports, some of the lesser known members of S Club 7 along with the one who caused a storm on celebrity big brother for being a bully, are reforming once again to do some touring of nightclubs! This time, instead of 7 though, there will be 3 of them – one girl and 2 guys. The others are either quite happy away from the limelight or are doing okay without dragging up the past once again and inflicting cheesy pop on us all!

It’s wierd the thought of S Club performing as adults… these guys are either in their 30′s or nearly there. I’m curious to know whether they’ll be hoping to come back with a more mature sound or whether they’ll be picking up right where they left off…
